If god told you to kill your own kid, or spouse, or to kill your neighbors family including their baby yet you have to keep their 16 your old virgin daughter for yourself would you?
Would you find this morally correct because god commanded it?

There is no IF. The god does tell christians to murder::
Deuteronomy 22:21 Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.
I would hope that no one follows these sick rules... BUT.... this is what their holy book tells them to do
OK, since you are posing a question about God and his communication to the Jewish people, i can assume 1. You believe there is a God? or 2. Just Pontificating?
Where do you put yourself?
If 1. You believe there is a God, so how do you know?
If 2. Just Pontificating, sounds like evangelism to me.
Me? I am an atheist
I would tell god, "you never go full retard!"
Cutting off your right hand or plucking out your eye is a metaphor but the flood is real, a guy lived in the belly of a whale, a donkey talked, angels had sex with humans and a talking snake really gave eve an apple...and on and on. Oh....and woman came from a rib....and if there are any women here talking they need to shut up. :P
No question here, God as defined in the christian Bible is an Immoral being. What's really interesting is that there are multiple instances where God kills or commands people to kill other people. and there are very few cases where the Devil actually kills a person. which one is the good guy, and which one is the bad guy here?
statusfx,
The biblical God was simply the series of men who ruled the various dominant Middle Eastern area empires during ancient times. The word "God" was the generic title of the ruler. The biblical God character died when the last Babylonian emperor bit the dust. He's not coming back. No resurrection for him.
If god told you to kill your own kid, or spouse, or...
Would you find this morally correct because god commanded it?
This is quite a hard question to answer as God telling me to kill anyone doesn't align with my values and beliefs and who I believe God is.
Furthermore, there's no where written in the bible that says God telling his ppl to kill their family members.
But I would think that whatever God tells me or anyone would be moral.
@hello
You need to take some time and really ponder the question if god told me to do X then it would be moral...
That is the same mentality of suicide bombers
I don't need to ponder the q anymore. I would do whatever my God tells me to do. But I wouldn't think he'd tell me to do what's in the OP. Furthermore, the suicide bombers are Islamic terrorists. They believe in a different God and don't do things because they heard it from God. They do it because of what's in the book they follow which is all law and no mercy or grace. I hope that by rewriting my answer you will see that I have a completely different mentality. Realise that if God were to talk to someone and command them to something, it would most likely be life changing but not dangerous. In fact, I don't think it's even possible for God to command someone to kill as described in OP.
Bullshit...
“And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.
And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord. Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.”

@Hello
allah and the christian god are the same being.
judaism, christianity, and islam are all abrahamic religions. They share the same god.
And you hello, didn't hear anything from your god either. You read from your bible or heard it from someone that claims it came from your god. If you say you heard it directly from your god, I call you a liar.
It's not possible for god to command someone to kill someone because there is no god!
Hello, you wrote that you would do whatever your god tells you to do. How would your god tell you these things? Would you ever hear your god’s voice literally talking to you?
Definitely not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! don`t go by the bible to do an behavior like that. I don`t like violence of any type I don`t condone violence of any sought. What you read there is barbaric and I believe your signaling out tin particular the old testament. I don`t recall anything in the new being blatantly violent like that. but I will stand corrected if I oversight something in the scriptures.
I'm sorry let me first ask what bible you follow... please quote what verse allows you to avoid the Old Testament!
I'm in the new covenant that Jesus ushered in, And you can read about it in the book of Hebrews. I follow the new testament.
@ Devout Christian ....
" I follow the new testament."
So... this will be your bit then......
Luke 19:27 ..... But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
Hey Luke always so "christian"! How about 14:26 as well? "If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters such a person cannot be my disciple".
It's really a sad verse when you think about it. To think that it encourages people to be weak like the lower animals and to just wish to devour each other. Have you ever seen when a group of chimps decides to enhance their territory? They actually eat the other congress (lol btw) members. It's a brutal thing they do. Are we humans not above that kind of conflict? I suppose a monkeys gotta eat and feed their own tho. Such is the world, that others exist, that will do the same to you and me in a heartbeat.
devout christian,
If you follow the New Testament then send me a $million dollars.

I`m all against rape and murder and any kind of genocide. jesus I feel would never okay that kind of behavior, and if somehow he did then I wouldn`t be his follower, My brand of Christianity is humility love faith forgiveness etc.
if you could ask your clergy to follow suit, and leave children alone, that would be a great help.
““Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
Matthew 5:17-18 NIV

Remember slavery is in the laws of exodus, Jesus says that nothing from the laws will change, how do you respond?
In The Old Testament god commands murder, allows rape and slavery, yet has the need to exclude shellfish lol. You said if Jesus did stand for this you would not follow him... so did you just make up your version of religion or will you follow through with no longer following an immoral, anti human myth?
devout christian,
Remember, according to the fairy tale Jesus demands that a certain number of believers must be killed for their faith before he returns. Then, when he returns, he becomes a rigid dictator. He goes on to torture humanity, destroy the environment, wage a bloody war, kill all life, and destroy the planet. He's a real whacko. Everyone curses him.
devout christian,
According to the fairy tale Yeshua won't return until a magic number of believers have been killed for their faith =
Revelation 6:9-11 (TLB) = "9 And when he broke open the fifth seal, I saw an altar, and underneath it all the souls of those who had been martyred for preaching the Word of God and for being faithful in their witnessing. 10 They called loudly to the Lord and said, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long will it be before you judge the people of the earth for what they’ve done to us? When will you avenge our blood against those living on the earth?” 11 White robes were given to each of them, and they were told to rest a little longer until their other brothers, fellow servants of Jesus, had been martyred on the earth and joined them."
Jesus demands that people are killed. It's been 2,000 years and he's still not satisfied with the number of victims. And then when he returns he will become a mean dictator and later on he will kill all life and destroy the planet. He's not a nice guy.
Funny stuff until you realize it's all in the bible as god's word. Leviticus 20 is by far the most direct and undeniably concise message relating punishment for sins. I would love to have an attorney's take on it.
every single christian that doesnt follow the actual letter of the bible, does not believe it is the literal word of god. If they pick and choose which parts they think are right and just and ignore the rest they have placed their own innate morality above that of their god.
which is a very good thing!, the secular reformation of Christianity is what made it compatible with western civilization.
Burn Your Bible,
People do those and similar acts on a daily basis simply because some guy in charge tells them to do those things. At this very minute a handful of people are ready to kill untold numbers of people and cause all kinds of damages if the crazy lunatic Trump orders them to launch some nuclear missiles. Now imagine a real celestial deity tells you to do something. Of course you would do it without a second thought. But people will refuse to carry out some orders a guy might give them. A typical case is the biblical story of Saul, who showed mercy and ticked off the God character. If the God character had been real there's no way Saul would have refused to do as he had been told to do.

I agree that their are a great number of people willing to listen to authority and follow commands given, as well there are many people who would follow god if he revealed himself, but I have said many times that even if the god of the Bible revealed himself to me (yes I would believe he is real) I would never follow or obey the immoral monster! I believe there would be an equal number of people that reject said god and would stand up against him. See as humans I believe it is inside us to revolt against tyrannical dictators, it might take time but look at history eventually we take them down!
Right now there are many followers of god yet something tells me if god came down and started commanding based on the Bible people would revolt immediately, the numbers would swing in the opposite direction. I mean seriously if the god of the Bible is real he should just wipe everyone off the earth and create robots that only want to please him.
Burn Your Bible,
You make some good points about people revolting against the God character. There are passages about it in the Bible. He's a mean SOB and tortures everyone so all of the people curse him =
Revelation 16:8-11 (CEV) = "8 The fourth angel emptied his bowl on the sun, and it began to scorch people like fire. 9 Everyone was scorched by its great heat, and all of them cursed the name of God who had power over these terrible troubles. But no one turned to God and praised him.
10 The fifth angel emptied his bowl on the throne of the beast. At once darkness covered its kingdom, and its people began biting their tongues in pain. 11 And because of their painful sores, they cursed the God who rules in heaven. But still they did not stop doing evil things."
But as a practical matter in the real world people in all societies tend to follow their leader and do as he tells them to do, even if he tells them to do something really bad.
As for the biblical God wiping people off of the Earth that's what the book of Revelation is about. And there's a nifty threat in Zephaniah 1:2-3 (CEV) = "2 I, the Lord, now promise to destroy everything on this earth—
3 people and animals, birds and fish. Everyone who is evil will crash to the ground, and I will wipe out the entire human race."
