You said you were a life-long atheist then became a Religious Absolutist. Well, let me tell you a story.

When I was only 3y old, me mom caught me reading the labels on the cereal boxes. She then used the Bible to help teach me how to read. Only one problem. Even at that age, I saw the Bible as being as ridiculous as Mother Goose fairy tales. When I was 5y old, me mom gave me the novel Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke with a note attached. I was to read the novel and write a 5 page report. What kind of mother tortures her child thusly? Bascially, she wanted to prepare me for First Grade (there was Kindergarten back then). Two months later, guess what premiered on TV. Star Trek: The Original Series. With just those two things, I was forever hooked on science and science fiction. And since I was forced to attend churh with me mom, it was my greatest hero, Mr. Spock, who kept me firmly grounded and prevented me from being brainwashed by religion. Star Trek ended in 1969. However, just two months later, the greatest achievement by the human species also occurred. Neil Armstrong did his Small Step Giant Leap just six days after my 8th birthday. Never was religion ever going to get their vicious claws into me. However, due to the horrible evil I suffered at the hands of religion, I was forced to pretend that I had gotten saved, just to keep religion from continuing to abuse me through the methods physical AND psychologically terrorism. It was not until I joined the US Navy that I was able to come out of the closet and claim that I was ALWAYS and atheist, and always shall be.

Here is one form of psychological terrorism employed by religion. The absurdity of Original Sin. To convince children that they are born evil/sinful is unconscionable (not guided by conscience; unscrupulous; not in accordance with what is just or reasonable). What kind of immoral monster is going to tell their children that they are born evil/sinful, born of evil/sin, born into evil/sin, born from evil/sin and must have an imaginative Sky Faerie and Magic Lich Virgin to save them? Partially correct, but ultimately wrong. Carl Sagan only disagreed with the "hard atheist" viewpoint (as am I by the way) of the statement, "There is no god." What Carl Sagan said in one of his shows was that all scientific evidence points to the "improbability" of any god existing. That is my view point. More later.

I am also agnostic due to the fact that there are some things "I do not know." Remember the true definition of agnostic is "lack of knowledge." When someone lacks knowledge, they do not know.
