I am a Mormon, one of the lowest groups in the Christian totem pole. You see, the problem is that I don't if I believe in it anymore or if I ever believed in it. At the moment, I am just looking for answers and I want to hear from people who can help me. Please don't just be a douche because Mormonism is something that I poured my years of my life into. Right now, I'm just looking for help.

Honestly, if momons taught me one thing, its that its easier that you think to make a religion and fool them into thinking it as true, making the bivle more american doesnt make it true, putting the garden of eden in missouri or something was laughable.
If there is no life after death and atheism is right, then why does it matter if someones beliefs are wrong? If we are all gonna just die anyways, what's the point of arguing or even trying to change someone's mind?
Hi Blake,
Check out Pragmatic's thread The Dark Side of Theism, http://www.atheistrepublic.com/forums/debate-room/dark-side-theism
Does that change your mind re your post?
Well why would you want somebody worshiping something that isn't there? Especially if it changes the way you act. If you've wanted a present for Christmas for 8 months, and said I have it and ready to give to you, but really didn't, would you want me to allow you to think about you going to have it when you really won't?
"If there is no life after death and atheism is right, then why does it matter if someones beliefs are wrong? "
Do you want someone with his finger on the nukes to believe that this life is not so important, because the next life is better?
Minitubs ... What answers are you looking for ? If it's about living without religion , this is a good space to ask questions. Like most internet sites you might have to bear with a modicum of douchery. You will have to use your filter to discern what is helpful to you . Peace.
Yea i think I understand what you mean when you said;
"one of the lowest groups in the Christian totem pole."
It is like when you feel that you were thrown in large hole inside the deepest bottom of a large pit filled with holes.
So I think it is best to first get out of the hole and get to the surface of the bottom of the pit.
This christian criticism of the Mormon fraud should help you to get there:

The large pit is Christianity itself, but focus on Mormonism first.
Baby steps for now.

The reason for this is that the religious mindset leads people to sort of give up on their life. Most religions describe this existence as sinful, tainted, unholy, and even evil. They reject this existence in hopes of an afterlife that may or may not come. Instead of maximizing this life and enjoying it to the fullest, they spend time preparing themselves for an afterlife that probably wont come.
Practicing religion takes up a lot of time too. I did some rough calculations and being an active Catholic costs one year of your life. Attending church services, holy days of obligation, prayers, and other religious activities all adds up to approximately one year. From the Mormons I know, Mormonism takes up a lot more time than Catholicism. This is all time spent preparing for an afterlife that most likely doesn't exist. Imagine what you could do with an extra year or more of your life. You could master a new skill, go on an adventure, listen to music, read, have conversations, and do whatever fulfills you.
The religious mindset leads to a rejection of earthly life. But from what we know, this earthly life is the only life we will ever get. The religious mindset not only leads us to reject this life but it leads us to view this life as a negative thing, as a punishment by a tyrannical god. The religious belief system leads many to waste precious hours of human existence preparing for a purely hypothetical afterlife, that when analyzed doesn't even seem so great.
So yes, we are all going to die, but if I can convince more people to embrace life and enjoy this one life we get than I think I helped my fellow man. Beliefs matter because of the way they affect our actions and the influence they have on our interactions with others and the world around us. If you spend your time believing you are going to have an afterlife, you will be more inclined to miss out on opportunities in this life. For example, you might not spend as much time with your family because you believe you'll get to spend eternity with them in an afterlife By rejecting the afterlife, we would decide to spend time with our family now because we are lucky to have them in this one life.
Hey I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through a difficult time the world makes it especially hard to find your path in life and figure out truth from lies wrong and right etc. and I was confused and hurt by all the evil in the world done by people who are religious... I completely understand where you're coming from and I'm so sorry that you're feeling lost and confused, to be honest I don't agree with the concept of "religion". Because religion is run and enforced by people, I find that a lot of religions were originally very nice and beautiful but people have changed it over time to make it suit them selves and taught it to there children to the point where entire civilization are extremely uncivilized, cold and judgemental to each other and everyone who doesn't agree with them. I struggled with this basically my whole childhood I desperately wanted to know the truth "was there a god?" And if so " which one?". After months of searching, looking at scientific evidence, and listening to personal testimonies I came to the conclusion that I definitely believed there was a god out there that's been distorted, today I call myself spiritual Christian, I've come to believe in what's morally correct and focusing god's love and trying to be a loving kind person towards everyone. I honestly feel so much better than ever especially when I felt condemned by religion... I understand if you don't agree and this is what I've experienced in my life, I hope you find this helpful and I truly wish things get better for you. Wishing all the support and love for you in the world :)
