I did not learn my Geology from God.

Stop sending me questions about Geology. I don't know anything at all about the subject. All I remember is coloring maps in Geology class. Oh, wait! That was Geography. Or was it Earth Science? Oh hell! I don't know. LEAVE ME ALONE!

You kind of have it right

You kind of have it right Cognostic.

Geology is in the field of Earth Sciences, which also includes Oceanography, Climatology, etc. Basically anything having to do with the study of the "Earth".

My specialty is Volcanology. Although their "hiccups" can be quite disastrous, I just find volcanoes very fascinating (imagine Spock doing the classic eyebrow rise).

And I certainly hope you don't try learning Geology from the Bible, or any religious text. None have anything to do with geology.

If any have any questions about geology, specifically volcanism, ask and I shall try to get back with you. Although I work with the YVO, we are also keeping a very close monitoring on the Hawai'i situation.

@Arakish: I just find volcanoes very fascinating

Have you ever been to Naples? We visited Pompeii a couple of years ago. Those people didn't have vulcanologists to give them early warnings, and they had no clue about pyroclastic flows or pumice showers, so I guess they had an excuse. But today there's a huge city sprawling around the foothills of Vesuvius with very limited evacuation routes. We also went to Etna and had some fairly ordinary wine at a vineyard on the slopes. Ah well. At least those people have lots of Catholic priests to intercede for them when those big fireworks go off.

Yeah. My wife and I visited

Yeah. My wife and I visited Naples in 1987. Got to talk to a few volcanologists there. We toured the area and even I was commenting on how much danger the surrounding area was in if Vesuvius decided to blow up. However, there is almost always smaller hiccups leading up to the big bang ;-).

And with all those Catholic priests, maybe their "prayer" force can keep Vesuvius at bay ;-).

On the same trip, also went to see Mt. Etna; then later visited Santorini, the site of the caldera that may have led to the Atlantis sinking myth. And to be honest, I would love to live at Santorini. Beautifully wonderful place.

Pompii was one of the best

Pompii was one of the best places I have ever been; Walking up the wagon rutted stone streets. Looking into the homes and shops. I was especially taken with one stone counter that had holed cut through the top where pots and pans could be set to heat and the space below where a fire could be kept blazing. The stone chairs where people could sit made the whole place look like a modern city from the Flintstones. And of course Mt. Vesuvius was smoking all the time we were there. AWESOME I would return for another trip tomorrow.

The Bible is dumb because it

The Bible is dumb because it says NOTHING about geology and science really. By contrast, the Quran is filled with wonderful science. For example, in the area of geology: http://www.answering-christianity.com/geology.htm

Now, you might be tempted to dispute this, but that would be hateful far right Islamophobic bigotry, so don't do it unless you want to compared to Hitler by mainstream society.

Dude,

Dude,

Just the titles listed on that page are LOLOL.

Really loved the bullshit one of "The mystery in Iron Miracle of the Quran."

That one had me laughing so hard I hurt myself.

My favorite heading was the "Lack of Oxygen and Low Air Pressure in Space." (Allow that one to sink in for just a bit. LOL)

Yeah, I saw that one also.

Yeah, I saw that one also. But, being a geologist, the iron thing really had me laughing hard.

All in all, they all had me laughing by just the titles. Let alone listening to them...

@Glacier

You give us links to opinion pieces by some bloke called Dr. Zaghlool Al-Najjar and claim disagreeing with him "would be hateful far right Islamophobic bigotry, so don't do it unless you want to compared to Hitler by mainstream society"?

You didn't even give links to the relevant Quran verses so we could evaluate them ourselves!.

WTF are you smoking, mate?

@Sushi Re: Glacier

Hey, Sush! Ummm.... Okay, I will go ahead and admit up front that I could be totally wrong about this. However, going out on a limb here, I have a pretty good hunch that Glacier was actually trying to be sarcastic and funny with that post. That's how I read it, at least. Even made me chuckle a little bit. From what I have read in a few of his other posts, he actually has a pretty good sense of humor. If I am wrong, though, I'm sure I will be corrected. *grin*

Really?! Awww damn! Sorry, Glacier- it's just I've been reading some pretty extreme opinions here lately and my irony meter failed. Actually, it imploded.
I dropped a couple of these, too:

Mike doesn't get to me, so much as worry me. I wish he'd get some help - maybe go back on his meds or get some meds to take. But right wing nuttery worries me a great deal, so does left wing nuttery for that matter.- especially from the young.

https://www.ted.com/talks/erin_marie_saltman_how_young_people_join_viole...

If I were an extremist of some stripe looking to recruit members to my cause, I'd be batting my eyelashes at the young- especially young males- wouldn't you? I'd be whipping up the black/white, left/right, good/evil shit every chance I got. I'd feed and nourish that hatred until I could point the young un at "the other" and have them perform the necessary like a wind up doll.

Aw, heck yeah! There are a couple of yahoos I've seen who are absolutely ripe for the picking for any extremist. Best part is that it wouldn't take all that much work to get them prepped for "service" in the "War Against (insert ideology of choice)". Like you said, just wind their little knob a bit and point them in the right direction.... *tick-tick-tick-tick-tick*....*Ka-BOOOOOM!" Yippie kye-yay!

Hey, man, worked for me. I thought it was great. The titles ALONE on some of those topics were funny enough without even having to see the whole thing. LMAO Personally, I love backhanded sarcasm and humor.

Sorry, Glacier. The IronyGuard tablets were working just a little too well. I've thrown them away, now.

**Familiar tree walks up, picks off a twig with some leaves and a flower, hands it to Tin-Man**

"Here chew this. It should help. It is known to have anti-hallucinogenic properties."

**Tree starts rumbling off, stops, turns around**

"By the way, don't smoke the flower. Smoking that has the opposite effect."

**As tree rumbles off, you can swear you see it shaking, almost as if laughing to self...**
