"What I`m saying is if god is real displayed by Jesus Christ life and sayings then you have to shut your mouth. Because there is an after life and a heaven. And since no body can account for Jesus's body there is a possibility that he rose like the New Testament said. And no amount of your hatred for him or your overlooking aspects of Jesus's life is going to change that."
This was a strawman argument thrown at me in another forum. I was accused of cowardice for not responding and therefore losing the main thread of that forum. I have my response but I am really interested on how others would respond to such naked chicanery.

Huh. I've never argued against the resurrection before, but he isn't exactly making a strong or thorough case. He seems kinda grumpy with you lol.
I would argue three things:
1. Jesus life does not prove god is real, only his resurrection and subsequent ascension would do that.
2. 2000 year-old hearsay as corroborating evidence for the lack of a body in a tomb doesn't really prove anything at all.
3. I have a tomb in which tiny pink fairys were laid to rest, but since they aren't there anymore, we have to assume that they were raised from the dead by the sidhe queen and ascended to her right hand. Just ask bob, my plumber, he saw the whole thing.
True, most people don't just start out grumpy. Which makes me wonder how the conversation that led up to this point went.
I asked for evidence for the assertations that the writer communicated directly with his god and vice versa. Also (and rightly) pointed out that he was introducing red herrings to distract from the original, serious subject of the forum.
I suggested that the writer take this to a general forum for discussion to avoid distraction, however, as he/she didnt, I did.
I will publish my reply when a few wiser and funnier have parcelled theirs. I am interested as my gut instinct was to crush the statement with logic and some ridicule. But in a very "unlike me" manner restrained myself.
Hmmmm ? A dead body that was in a tomb yesterday is not there today.
I suppose one might ask: "What is more likely, someone has removed the body (like, say, a tomb robber) or the cadaver has miraculously taken flight, passed though solid objects and disappeared into a space/time emporium hither to unknown?
I think I'd go with the first one .....

@Big George: "A dead body that was in a tomb yesterday is not there today."
There is a third possibility. Assuming that Jesus existed and was crucified, we still can't be sure that he actually died. Some people survived crucifixion, especially if they were taken down after less than one day like Jesus. So maybe he just regained consciousness and limped out of the tomb.
What is more likely?
How would you measure the likeliness of each of yours examples? Once you've done that, how does that information translate into the real world? Asking if something is possible seems more informative than asking if it's likely.
can't
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Uhhh, measurement is an empirical process; that is about as "real word" as it gets.
Measurement sure, but likeliness no. Take the likelihood of going to the moon. There was a time when it was very unlikely, and now its very likely, precisely because we've already gone.
So something being likely or not depends on if it's possible or not. But so long as its possible, there's room to believe it could happen.
Our technology is a millimeter away from being able to resurrect somebody. We can bring back a heart that's stopped beating, reattach a limb that's been amputated, take out and put in organs at our leisure, the last step is having the equivalent of a defibrillator for the brain. Once that's done we could resurrect someone hours maybe even a day after they've died.
Jesus being resurrected two days later, is definitely not far fetched, even by our standards.
@Old man...."losing the main thread of that forum"
I wouldn't worry about that. A thread that stays on topic seems to be a rarity in this forum. I like all the twists and turns.
@Algebe: So maybe he just regained consciousness and limped out of the tomb.
I never had Jesus down as a 'limper' but now you mention it I can see that happening !
Although, when I think about it, if he could cure leprosy and allow the blind to see I would've thought fixing his own limp should have been a doddle !
Old man who sho...,
Even the Bible says that if the dead don't rise then people's faith is for nothing. How many real zombies have you seen in your lifetime? Has any of your relatives ever came back from the dead? If they haven't then neither did Yeshua.
@ Old man who .....

Personally ,I'd employ the Spartan response to Phillip of Macedon ........
"IF"....
That little two letter word ... changes everything .... it even demonstrates your opponents lack of certainty ...... a tacit admission that things may not be as he has described.
