A more poignant poser may be: Why would one calculate unintended consequences?
?
You are right to question my post. Sorry I couldn't elaborate at the time, I am traveling.
What I mean is: unintended consequences, though they may be mitigated by our innate ability to predict, are so numerous and, well... unintended, that trying to calculate them all would render one incapable of taking any action.
Do the best you can and let the chips fall as they may. It'll be okay.
What the hell are you talking about/ getting at??!!
Unintended consequences are usually...well...unintended. Therefore they, more often than not, aren't calculated. How would someone calculate consequences they haven't considered?
let me rephrase - how can we better calculate for consequences that were once unintended??
Why would 'we' want to do so? What's the goal? What's the benefit?
Experience, wisdom, and education; particularly in the subject of history.
calculate what?
Sigh.... I confuse people. Let me try again with an example.
Einstein
Japan gets nuked
VPT - "Einstein
Japan gets nuked"
Ok let me check my table:
Einstein = 5
Japan gets nuked = -2
ok so 5 - 2 = 3; that is how you "calculate"... :P
If he had realized that every major scientific breakthrough that could be purposed to create a bomb, has been purposed that way, then he would have known that would happen. History is a powerful, inarguable, teacher of the facts.
..........would he have still done it?
I doubt it, considering his comments about it, but who can know? Now we are in "What if?" territory, and if "if's" and "but's" were beer and nuts we could all get fucking plastered.
A lot of new inventions/theories have both good and bad outcomes. Fire can keep you warm and burn down someone's house. Once the possibility of nuclear weapons arose they would be built. No one is going to stop basic science because there may be bad outcomes. In fact nuclear war has been averted, and Japan need not have been nuked, there were other options, so no nuclear weapon need have ever been used.
We should be smart enough to avoid most of the bad options, and generally we are.
..except for nuking Japan, Nutmeg
I don't know what your point is. I already said Japan was an exception that didn't have to happen.
Is this person in some way trying to say that God is giving us consequences that He originally didn't intend because we all...deserved it??? Is THAT the reason for the sorry shape the world is in today??? If that is the point...how utterly RIDICULOUS!!!
So, there REALLY IS someone out there that feels that we are ALL sinners, and God is punishing us for that. Gee, why don't we all just throw our towels in right now, and forget about living!! Incidently, if that were the case, God is NOT this loving, caring, nurturing, all powerful devine being...he has quite a track record of torturing, and killing people for "punishment" If I were you, I'd start looking for another God!! Really...how STUPID... with all due respect!
ummmm........ no. Just no
