@ellharris412. - One of my closest friends is a believer in Islam. He comes from a moderate background and has had an inter religious marriage (He is Muslim and his wife is Hindu). and he believes the Quran to be the word of God and Allah to be God and so on. He believes the Quran is absolute and infallible. However he hasn't read the Quran, not in English (which is his first & preferred language).
There are many occasions where I end up in a debate with him on validity of his belief and his religion and scripture and a few times I seem to push the boundary with some drastic information yet he would go home and find an apologetic argument to still believe.
I have reached the conclusion that some people need to believe. They find solace in their faith. They need faith faith as much as I need scepticism. I find fear in faith, he finds meaning. No matter how much I convince him of what appears to be the falsehood of religion he will find an argument to justify it and no matter how insane the argument , he will believe it.
Its not like he isn't educated. He is highly Intelligent and very well educated, yet that is his vice (vice as it appears to me, he might deem it a virtue).
People come to irreligion by choice and no amount of reason or rationale can convince them otherwise. However If you can be a voice of reason enough so as not to antagonise him but fend him from the poachers like the guy in your video and other scam artists that religion is filled with you could help save him from getting ripped off or worse turn radical.
Your friend must make his own way. You can't "convert" anyone that isn't interested. Science is NOT a religion, nor is atheism, although many would have you believe they are.
@MykCob4
I agree with you.
If religion continues to expand, people might not see reason within themselves anymore. Rationality and Understanding aren't things stand steady in their Minds, with time and influence from Religion, they wobble and fall (not generalizing all Religious people as Irrational).
I would suggest the Peter Boghossian way: Steet epistemology
That is, use the Socratic method of asking questions, but specifically about his faith. It is not a way to convert someone, but to make them think and in the process reduce their confidence in their faith.

Apparently, there is an app to help people learn this approach, so that when the time comes they have better replies to the believers.

As I understand it (I just installed it myself) it's basically an app that asks you questions and gives you a few optional replies, where some are wrong and some are right.
Yay! Studying to better speak with religious people!

@ellharris412
I actually commented on that video and I'm waiting for a reply.
Of course, I want to test his Fundamentalism first, then I'll see how far deep he's gone into Christianity.
EDIT: I sent you the Reply from him.
Ellharris412, is that you Ellie?
