@ Ratburn ......
Greetings and Welcome ....
You described yourself as a non-atheist. Why?
Hello mykcob4,
To be quite honest with you, I am not sure which "category" I fall under. I am not fully convinced that a God exists, but I am also not 100% certain that there isn't a creator. I am questioning things.
I am sure there is no god in the same way I am sure there is no santa clause. I don't lack conviction. I need REAL proof of a god just like I need real proof that when I buy something that I get what I pay for.
So if you're agnostic, think of the validity of santa clause. The god theory has the same validity. Ignore AG he always tries to hijack threads to proselytize. He is uneducated AND he's brainwashed.
Because claiming atheism is a dogmatic statement I t says no belief in a God. According to atheist Frank Zindler in his debate with William lane craig states that an individual with no god belief is properly called an atheist.
It's not dogmatic. That is moronic! Fuck, the shit you pull out of your uneducated brainwashed ass is so stupid it is astounding!
Welcome Ratburn.
You also describe yourself as a skeptic. Is it possible to be skeptical and not atheist? Every religious narrative I've encountered is wildly improbable. Religions require the suspension of skepticism.
I am skeptical, but I am not 100% convinced about anything, and that includes the idea that no creator(s) exist. I guess I should have been more specific and said I am a person who likes to question things.
@Ratburn
Skepticism is good. Asking questions is even better. Again, plenty of good folks here who can guide you in the right direction and help you think a bit more clearly.
@Ratburn: "that includes the idea that no creator(s) exist."
So if you find evidence of a creator, does that imply that you must call it god and worship it? I think atheism is as much about rejecting religion as well as gods.
your totally misleading people here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Religions don`t suspend or surpass skepticism they experience it everyday .but what religion has as a tool to deal with this skepticism is the polemic of apologetics on it`s side .with greats like John Lennox, William lane Craig, Alvin Plantinga plus Ravi Zacharisis and I can list many more.
Hey, AB/DC! How ya been? Haven't seen you in a couple of days. Thought you might have gotten yourself booted out. Almost made me cry a little. Oh, but I'm being rude. Mr. Ratburn, please allow me to introduce Agnostic Believer (aka: Devout Christian), or - as I prefer to call him - AB/DC. There is debate around here as to whether he is a troll, or if he is mentally ill. Either way, you kinda get use to him after awhile. Anyway, stay skeptical, and keep asking questions.
Why the ad homin attacks Why don`t you deal instead with my polemics at hand. Why are you trying to ruin my reputation here?
@AB/DC
Calm down, buddy. I have no intentions of ruining your reputation. You are perfectly capable of doing that all on your own.
I would never defame some ones character on this posting. Like you did above concerning me. I guess you have nothing better to do with your time then to not deal with the polemics I state. You have zero response to my arguments or you go off on tangents. Stay with the subject at hand.
@Agnostic believer: "I would never defame some ones character"
Well you just accused me of having a "carnal mind" on another thread. That's a bit defamatory isn't it?
@AB/DC Re: "You have zero response to my arguments or you go off on tangents. Stay with the subject at hand."
Oh-dear-lord.....
There are sooooo many fantastic responses to that my circuits are going to melt down trying to decide which one to use! Bwaaaah-haaaa-haaaa-haaaa....!
@AB/DC Re: "I guess you have nothing better to do with your time..."
Funny you should mention that, ol' pal. Just so happens that being retired certainly does give me a bunch of extra time that I can use to get on here and show you just how very much I love-ums you. *smooch!* In case you haven't noticed, I'm a lover, not a fighter. *wink-wink*
@AG:
Do me a favor and never try to use any phrases from the logical vernacular again. It's ad hominem.
And you have quite the bad reputation as it is.
Well, this shall be fun then, I wonder what he will/may comment on my other post LOL
@Ratburn
Hey, we never know. Never a dull moment with him, though. lol
@Agnostic Believer:
All of these apologists try to argue god into existence on the basis of medieval sophistry, emotional needs, and false appeals to the supposed dependence of morality on religion. Some of them have grown very wealthy indeed by peddling their snake-oil.
I say religion is the enemy of skepticism, thought, and reason. If you have a counter-argument, why don't you put it forward instead of just dropping names.
The definition of an apologist is a liar.
Hey there, Ratburn. Welcome. Dive right in and start looking around. That's the way I had to do it. Plenty of good info and advice in here.
welcome welcome welcome
Welcome Ratburn!
Umm... did Agnostic WannaBeliever just say that he doesn't defame character while insisting WE stay on topic? Is it April Fools and I hadn't noticed?
Well, in his defence Darkk, he did say "in this posting". The irony is overwhelming.
Welome! I am fully convinced Thor and Santa do not exist!
Ratburn:
If you don't believe that a god exists then you are an atheist. To be agnostic about it is a separate issue. You can be both. Most of us are agnostic about it. Except, of course for particular god claims... Some of those we are quite certain do not exist.
Welcome @Ratburn! I hope this helps you place yourself. Being skeptical and open-minded is the first step to get rid of the brainwashing. Good luck!
