I remember this topic when I was a catholic and it really boggled my mind. The bible says that David is a man after god's heart. God favored him too much. He gave everything he needed, even his lustful desires were allowed. He won in every battle, and even became the ancestor of Jesus.
Theist and atheist out there, any opinion about the god of David. How can he allowed those things to David and favored him too much? If he is fair, merciful, and good as what catholic described, then how can he considered David as the one after his own heart???

In my personal opinion, if he favored one of his "children" over the rest, then he isn't a good "father." That's one of my main reasons for turning to atheism. I've always been a very kind person that's willing to go above and beyond for other people, even to the point of sacrificing my needs to fulfill theirs. I never got any special treatment. I continue to struggle through life. So I think it's horrible. If he exists, he should show the same love to all of his followers...
This god of David also loves sacrifices such as blood of lamb and he allowed battle everywhere during the old testament. He allowed innocent people to die. Some people called him a blood-thirst god.
And that's horrible! I can't even imagine a "loving and caring" god allowing something like that. It's too contradictory.
The god of David is troubling, but the God of Isaiah was much more troubling to me. Isaiah spent an entire book of the bible dictating the horrible disgusting and humiliating things that would happen to his enemies, and expected God to go off and do it. What kind of man, let alone Christian, let alone *god* would have any part of that?
So much of the bible talks of what seems to be a very flawed and vindictive god, and this is the reason why I started to rebel against it.
Rebel against that scripture is just a waste of time because their is a verse in the bible which says 'i will have mercy on those that i will have mercy on,meaning God is God and no one can change that even parents do have favorites among their children.
I agree with Walker, there is so much written about the flaws in religion. I feel that it was written this way to give those preaching a certain religion a way to explain away certain happenings in life.
If the bible is about the merciful god who was also the god of David, then flaws is something unacceptable. It just like accepting and rationalizing lies.
Discussions about the disparities in demeanor of God over the course of Biblical history are rather widespread. Some people have theorized that this is because "God" is actually a race of aliens, all of which have vastly different personalities.
However, it makes much more sense when we realize that the books of the bible were actually written by different people, who each had their own individual idea of what would make a good God. Many of the books were written hundreds of years after the events that they describe, by writers who never even knew any of the people involved. If you're interested, I highly recommend the book Who Wrote the Bible by Richard Elliot Friedman for more on that. I found it quite informative, but I think I must have given away my copy at some point

4. Johnathan stripped himself of his robe and gave it to David, with his armor, bow and belt.
1 Samuel 18:4.
5. Johnathan GREATLY DELIGHTED in David. (1 Samuel 19:1)

If God is really Gay like you say, Aren't you supposed to hate him or something like that???
Leviticus 20:13 King James Version (KJV)
13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
People read way too much into the Bible. I agree that it is fun to speculate though. As for the God of David, God seems to prefer people who mean well but screw up royally over people who make excuses every time they don't listen. Sounds like a typical parent to me (I hate it when my kids pass the buck when they do something they shouldn't have done).
