Whats the genre of the bible, quran and other scriptures? Obviously some nailing things better but all not science books, or books written to educate people, of PROVEN facts..
So are religious scriptures fiction? I think they should be established as fiction, i hope one day in a library i see it next to harry potter.

I suggest the genre to which you refer is mythology. Theology is simply a mythology taken far to seriously.
Pretty much what Zeff says....
At best "Folklore"..... at worst ....."Fantasy".....
but really really BAD fantasy....
The genre is fear. Once you get someone frightened for their very existence they become quite agreeable and pliable.
Of all man's emotions his worst is fear. If he is made to suffer it he will reach for anything that offers relief from it. Pain is a function of fear and the threat of it can truly and profoundly remove a man's spirit and self respect. This is the workings of religion; especially Islam if overtness was a measure of such things. All other religions practice the same fear mongering but the pretense is benevolence at first glance. At least with Islam there's little deception.
But, agreed, every gospel and epistle christianity attempts to evidence their claims with are false and easily shown to be pseudepigrapha in nature. All of it was recorded beginning no earlier than the last couple decades CE and all of it conflicts in lesser and greater extents.
"Theology is simply a mythology taken far to seriously." Well said.
The genre is Typology.
It is a method not used/known so much today but was very popular among the elite Jews around 2500-2000 years ago.
Basically it means stereotypical, the use of one or two story elements, to serve as the blueprint for a new one.
The New Testament is a very bad spaghetti western. Itinerant preacher on horseback { actually a jackass } comes to town . Enrages the corrupt local officials . They string him up. He dramatically escapes the Grim Reaper when his friends cut him down just in time. He escapes promising to return with a vengeance. They are filming the finale right now. Rumors are that he returns with his own posse raining hellfire and brimstone upon those tyrants heads. This time he has a real horse.
Reminded me of a movie Client Eastwood style.
No joke, this is what the Arkansas Library Association lists it under. Bible: Fiction,Fantacy,Irrellivent Information, Anti science, Religion, Blood and gore, Violence, Suggestive themes, Rape, Torture and/or Murder. Recommended age of reading? 16+
"Bible: Fiction,Fantacy,Irrellivent Information, Anti science, Religion, Blood and gore, Violence, Suggestive themes, Rape, Torture and/or Murder. Recommended age of reading? 16+"
That sound pretty accurate.
Oh, it gets better. "Note: It is recommended that anyone reading this book read several books on logic, reason, and current scientific fact. Failuer to do so may result in hysterics, alter egos, superiority complexes, and hypocrisy. On that note, do not take anything within the Bible seriously."
Are you serious ? In Arkansas ? Perhaps written by a rogue librarian the administration has not caught on to yet?
The attitudes of academia (even in the deep south) are very different than that of the general population.
That I do know living in the home state of H.S. Thompson . That a librarian wrote that is not surprising . That it remains on a city / county funded search tool does.
I correct myself. The association seems to be funded by membership fees. Perhaps I will join!
