Gates of Hell

The new controversial novel of Dan Brown described Manila as the Gates of Hell. Filipinos reacted differently on his description. Dan Brown should not describe a particular place with such negative phrase. Philippines is known as a catholic country and one of the most religious in the world. For them, a place in their country more deserve to be called as gates of heaven. What can you say about these?

There is already a place

There is already a place called the Gates of Hell, and it is certainly not in the Philippines.

That was literally hot! There

That was literally hot! There is no such place like that in the Philippines. Dan Brown really has a creative imagination...He should have used that flaming place instead of Manila.

What about Vegas?

If you're going to pick a

If you're going to pick a place which is the final home of all sinners, you can't beat Vegas.

It's interesting that the

It's interesting that the Heaven and Hell are "gated communities" in all the lore. This definitely implies that free will - considered highly important in this realm - is absent from the afterlife - just the kind of thing conveniently ignored by those perpetuating mythology.

And if you follow the beliefs

And if you follow the beliefs of the Baptists all the way back to their Calvinist roots, they believe that God decided, before you were even born, whether you were going to heaven or hell when you died. Which makes the notion of obeying God's will to get into heaven, pretty much moot.

Exactly. And somehow, it's

Exactly. And somehow, it's divine justice to be punished for choices we couldn't possibly have made.

If free will is gone, that

If free will is gone, that doesn't sound like much of an after*life* to me.

I like the rendition of both

I like the rendition of both as presented by Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman - we're sent to one or the other (and realize that they're both pretty much the same) we can roam either or both freely according to our personal tastes at the time.

So it means that there are

So it means that there are people who already destined to enter the gate of hell and the gate of heaven. I do hope if that's true, there are no highly immoral and hypocrite people who were destined to entered the gate of heaven. Such belief is indeed nonsense.

Sorry to burst your bubble,

Sorry to burst your bubble, but surely you see it's obvious that there's at least one hypocrite up there however. The dude who says he has the power for punishing his creations for doing what he designed them to do.

Nicaragua in central america

Nicaragua in central america has been said to have the gates of hell in a small town with a crater that looks like the entrance to the inferno.

My feelings are that he did

My feelings are that he did that just to be more controversial and get publicity for his book, which isn't very good by the way. When there is so much hype surrounding a book , movie or event, we are all drawn to it just to see what it's about. I have spent a lot of money on bad books and movies and things like that just to follow the human herd.

I too have this problem, the money is one thing but the time is what kills me. I am not what I would call an awesome writer but I have read many a bad book. thankfully the good books put outweigh the bad though I seldom read a book once it has been brought to film. Movies on the other hand I often see if I liked the book and am usually disappointed! What are some of you favorite books?

I do not know if Dan Brown

I do not know if Dan Brown already visited the Philippines but one thing is for sure, he do not like the Philippines. I also do not know what his beliefs but I will just guess that he might hate the Philippines for being a religious country and wants others to think that Philippines could be one of the worst place.
