I was commenting on facebook about my opinion of a certain fundamentalist preacher who is also the son of a fundamentalist preacher. The father was much less contentious but now in his 90s is hidden away by the family. The son is stumping for Trump. I said I felt the son was making a mockery of the ideals his father preached. A person responded to me that I shouldn’t say such mean things. I responded that I wasn’t being mean, just venturing my opinion that he was an embarrassment to the ideals of Christ. I also celebrated the fact that in this great country I can speak such opinions out loud without fear of persecution. The person said that I had no knowledge of Christianity and should read the Bible. I responded that being brought up in a Southern Baptist church I was trained on the Bible from front to back. And I read it again as an adult to verify my original opinion. It is a misogynistic mess and holds no moral or historical truth. I again added that this was just my opinion.
The person responded “The Bible was written to be seen through the eyes of faith”. WTF?
My response was “Um, so you just ignore what it says and do what you want? Sounds like some Christians I know.” The person became irate, said I was evil and picking a fight. She was done with me and the conversation at an end. Wow.
My question is wtf does the bible being seen through the eyes of faith even mean? It looks to me like it’s saying ignore what you don’t like.

I feel your pain, it is very difficult to have a good discussion about the Bible because the believers arguments are illogical, presuppose that it is the word of god and to know his intentions. You find as soon as you ask difficult questions the bailout or throw insults.
I think it I best to ask questions that lead them to see what a mess it is.
Seen through eyes of faith is a meaningless phrase like god is love.
Faith does not have eyes. It only has one "i".
I could not possibly care less what theocratic errors junior is making. I don't give a flying fig what theists say or do as long as their crazy beliefs do not impact me in any way.
Seeing through the eyes of faith simply means that the bible, in all it's errant dialogue, cannot be wrong in the eyes of the faithful.
