Richard Dawkins famously said, “We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones.” His point was that there were so many things that had to happen for us to be alive, and so many reasons we shouldn’t be here, that we ought to embrace the “miracle” of life while we have it.

I am glad to be alive! You?
I am very glad to be alive!
Yes, I am glad to be alive, and I marvel at the extraordinary circumstances that have created life. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to be born into circumstances that allow me to appreciate being alive. A staggering amount of our fellow humans can not say the same. Poverty, unsanitary living conditions, exploitation, war, unstable governments, and more still plague millions making life a living hell for them. I am lucky and appreciative indeed.
