Great resource. Thx, Zeff
Wow
I was surprised to see New Zealand colored orange. I'd forgotten that the blasphemy law is still on the books. In fact, a move to repeal it was defeated this year. There have been several bids to press charges under this law, including an attempted prosecution of a TV station over a South Park episode. However, the freedom of expression provisions in the Bill of Rights trumps the blasphemy law, and the Attorney General has always rejected the charges.
Interestingly, one of the most vocal opponents of the blasphemy laws is the Anglican Church, with one archbishop saying that god doesn't need the protection of the law. The most vocal supporters of the law are the indigenous Maori people, who sadly caught the Christianity disease along with syphilis, alcoholism, and tobacco addiction, from early European missionaries.
Hmmm.... Given the option, I'm thinking the alcoholism would be preferable over the Christianity disease. Certainly cheaper, at least.
I'm surprised to see Britain in orange. Generally speaking, the people I encounter don't give a monkeys if you're Atheist or not.
