Death Toll

Lately, there has been a lot of sabre-rattling by Donald Trump. He has been childishly mouthing off at North Korea. The Problem is that North Korea is a very unstable country led by a mad man. Yes, Trump is a wack job, but he is just a spoiled brat, he's not insane. Or is he? You can bomb Syria, and Afghanistan and basically all you have done is moved a few rocks around and created something to be on the news all day. If you bomb N. Korea, that is a whole different matter. And here's why. Seoul is just 60 miles from the border. Seoul has some 20 million people in that city alone. Innocent civilian people....20 million. If Trump attacks N. Korea in any way, BOOM Seoul and its entire population go up in smoke. N. Korea has 80% of it's 1 million man army with conventional and nuclear weapons at the border and pointed right at Seoul. In one day, maybe even one hour, the worst war tragedy in world history would happen.
20 MILLION!!!!
By comparison, the worst battle to date in history was the One Hundred Day Offensive which took one hundred days and claimed 1,855,369 total casualties.
So just because Trump is stupid and doesn't know what he is doing, he could cause an event that would take the lives of more people than the 1917 Spanish Flu, and double the number of people that died in all of WW I.
We are talking about a moment compared to 4 years.
For all of you, Trump supporters, THIS is WHY he should have never been let near the Whitehouse!

I think the Korean thing is a

I think the Korean thing is a trap. The North will do a nuke test very soon. If Trump attacks it will place our fleet at risk and if it suffers a loss we will have to respond with more force. In the event we do end up occupying NOKO it will be a financial disaster because we will have to take care of the survivors and rebuild the country.

A better plan might be to station some ballistic missile subs on station and aim all of their warheads on a gird of NOKO. If they ever attack we could hit them with 576 nuclear warheads each with 300-475 kt nukes. That's some Old Testament stuff.

A conventional or limited nuke war is stupid. Once the shooting start you have to be the meanest SOB on the planet in order to control the other dummies.

Diotrephes, what you advocate

Diotrephes, what you advocate is a bloody nightmare for life on this planet. According to a Rutgers University-UCLA-UC Boulder study, a limited engagement of just 100 nuclear weapons would put over 5 terragrams of soot particles into the upper atmosphere and cause the coldest temperatures in over 1,000 years. And it would destroy 20-45% of the ozone layer. These changes would lead to an extinction level event for many species and crop failure that would doom much of human life on this planet. And that model assumed engagement in the much less foliated Pakistan; North Korea's infrastructure and foliage would likely mean more severe effects, and your proposal multiplies the effects by a factor of 5. Your idea would risk all life on this planet. And by the way, we shouldn't commit mass murder of millions of North Korean citizens. We would rob them of the few years of consciousness that a human might enjoy. Drop that awful idea, Diotrephes.

PS: You expressed concern about the financial expense of aiding liberated North Korean citizens, and propose instead to commit global genocide. No one on this planet should contemplate something so monstrous.

Here is the study: http://www.atmos-chem-phys.org/7/2003/2007/acp-7-2003-2007.pdf

Truett, There were 2,053

Truett, There were 2,053 nuclear explosions around the world between 1945 and 1998. Of course a lot of them were underground. We used to drop nukes on our troops. We even nuked Mississippi, (underground). This is a 14:24 video showing where they took place.
A Time-Lapse Map of Every Nuclear Explosion Since 1945 - by Isao Hashimoto - YouTube

Sure, if we nuked North Korea the fallout residue would cover Canada and the US. But it wouldn't kill us. We were always contaminated when I was a kid. Japan was operational with a couple of days after it got nuked and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were rebuilt as if nothing had ever happened.

One thing is for sure and that is if North Korea got vaporized the other idiots around the world would stop acting like idiots real quickly
It would be a good idea to nuke them at the same time because if people are going to bitch they might as well have a lot to bitch about.

Of course I don't advocate a first strike against North Korea. If they want to built nukes and missiles it will give their engineers something to do. But if they ever fired one at us there wouldn't be one left alive on the planet and all of the other foreign enemies would have about a one second life expectancy.

That's some Old Testament stuff from Zephaniah chapter 1.

You should always make the hard decisions before you need to make them.

Kim knows how to deal with

Kim knows how to deal with sane, stable people. He uses threats, blackmail and an aura of lunacy to frighten world leaders into appeasing and tolerating his antics. I don't think he knows how to deal with another apparent lunatic. That's the genius of Trump's current tactics. In a single stroke, the attack in Syria positioned Trump/America as humanitarian heroes while profoundly pissing off Putin, thereby taking some of the heat out of allegations of collusion with Russia. It also sent Kim the message that Trump was impulsive and unpredictable. The use of a bunker busting bomb in Afghanistan further strengthened that impression. The message to the NK hierarchy is that they can't afford to let Kim drag them into war with a superpower led by a president with an itchy trigger finger. Hopefully they'll be encouraged to start dismantling the Kim-nasty dynasty and building better relationships with China and SK

I think Trump may have been studying Machiavelli. I'm cautiously impressed.

@mykcob4: Well, I don't

@mykcob4: Well, I don't usually comment on the posts that people make about American politics in the forum, because I'm European and think that expressing my opinion about it isn't very respectful, the United States is a democracy and its citizens vote what they think fit... In Venezuela and Iran too.

But, in this case, I would like to say something about... only one time.

You've said that North Korea is a very unstable country led by a mad man, I agree, but the perception that you have right now of the United States in, for example, Europe, is the same. Did you know that there're only three countries in the world that I cannot travel with my laptop, or with my tablet? North Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States... not even China has such restrictions, nor Iran, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Russia... I don't know if explain myself clearly.

Now, being more specific about the American anti-missile system that has been deployed in South Korea. The problem isn't North Korea, the problem is China.

And if I may say so, I don't know to what extent the United States has the right to play with world stability by provoking China. Suppose that madman who led North Korea provokes a military altercation in the Chinese sea, there's an escalation and China is forced to take sides... repeat, I don't know if explain myself clearly.

Nor Tom Clancy was able to imagine someone like Trump sitting in the oval office.

SBMontero, I encourage you

SBMontero, I encourage you and every human on this planet to comment on what the US should and shouldn't do. All life on earth is impacted by America, so all life has an interest in what America does and does not do. So don't hold back on future comments. It's not disrespectful, it is instead completely responsible. So comment at will...

North Korea is talking about

North Korea is talking about making a preemptive strike and all president twitter fingers can do is just tweet and provoke them. He is on track to destroy more than the US. N.Korea said they are ready for war "if he (trump) wants it" and president twitter fingers says in speeches "we need to start winning wars again" wow this guy thinks it's all a game & will destroy this world.

Based on today's propaganda

Based on today's propaganda videos the people in North Korea are happy and dancing in the streets. In the meantime the psychos in America are beating each other bloody.

The site here is titled Atheist Republic, not Political Kibbles and Bits. There are political forums you can vent on but this is not one of them. Bring your best on-topic game here and leave the rest at the doorstep on your way in. Thank you.

@Pitar

@Pitar
1) Religion is nothing more than politics.
2) There is no restriction about what subject I choose to comment on here.
3) This is an atheist forum, but being atheist doesn't mean that you are restricted to talk about just religious issues.
4) I will comment on any issue I see fit. I don't need you to edit my life in any way. I didn't see you way in when ImFree decided to bring a racist topic to the forum. You were decidedly silent yet you have decided to restrict what I have decided to talk about. To profess yourself as some free spirit, some hermit type sage that pops off from the peanut gallery with rambling boring nosense semi-poetic rhetoric isn't exactly bringing YOUR best on-tpic game to the forfront. So'll politely ask you to either join in on whatever issue I choose to post or just ignore it if you don't think it pertains to anything that you want to talk about on this forum.

If you read the disclaimer which describes the site then you'd know that political issues are fair game for discussion. "For many atheists around the world, online forums and discussion groups are one of the few ways to connect with others who share their views. Our worldwide atheist forum provides a lively place for debate, support and conversation. We encourage discussion about any and all topics as long as it abides by our forum guidelines. You can ask questions, request input, present a challenging topic for debate or share an idea. We hope you will join our existing and growing community of atheists. Our forum is also a great place to chat, make new friends and even share ideas with the Atheist Republic team."
THANK YOU!

PS It's called the Atheist Republic. NOT the bad poetry corner, pitar.

Mykcob4, I support what you

Mykcob4, I support what you've said. And the Mike Pences of the world believe that this life isn't all we have; they think god's in control of earth and that believers will live forever in heaven, so global annihilation is less of a concern to them than it is to those who understand the nature of reality. We have been placed in grave danger by Trump voters and all those US voters who failed to prevent his ascendancy to power.

Truett, Exactly

Truett, Exactly
I was angered and saddened when I heard a christian pastor tell the story of a young boy soon to die from something incurable. The boy asked his dad whats it going to like when I die? The dad tells him "You know how sometimes you'll fall asleep in the living room then when u wake up you are in your bed. Thats how it is when we die. we wake up in heaven:)"
Then the pastor says "Isn't that just great we don't have to worry about death? Christians are going to wake up with our lord.
Now, I was still back thinking about this little boy who has to face death and I got mad that pastors talking about skipping around in heaven. As a mother or even just someone with a heart, I have no problem with the dad explaining death to his boy this way. I do feel that anything scary happening on earth is automatically solved by christians and their views on eternity. Life here is nothing compared to infinity. As 45 would say "sad"

According to the biblical

According to the biblical fairy tale in Revelation a certain unknown number of believers have to be killed for their faith before Jesus returns. And those who are killed in the meantime are given white robes and their souls are kept under the altar. The Christian fairy tale doesn't say that kids will go to heaven. The Islamic fairy tale says that they will. Of course in the Islamic fairy tale the cute boys are the guys' playthings and the girls might end up as one of their virgins.
