Critical Thinking Project

Edited based on user comments.

My name is Hannah. I'm a student under Kaldoun Sweis in an apologetics class this semester. While I know many of the arguments against God, my assignment asks me to address one from a specific atheist.
If you are interested, comment. If not, there's no need to.
Thanks!

@hdiscuss
Guess what girl, we get a bunch of people claiming to write a paper and that ISN'T what they come here for.
So produce all the evidence that you are actually writing a paper because I don't fucking believe you and I am dead tired of religious trolls coming here proselytizing with their bullshit.
So let's not have any discussions about "morality" that's been done and your side lost.
Let's not have any discussions about the facts in the bible because the bible isn't even close to factual.
Let's not discuss jesus because there is no proof a jesus ever lived.
Let's not talk about miracles because there were not and are not any...ever.
Let's not talk about eyewitness or any hypotheticals that are not and can not be proven.
Let's not talk about how god talks to you because that is bullshit as well.
In fact, lets not talk about ANYTHING, because I can't think of a THING NEW that you could actually bring to the table!
The Earth isn't flat.
The Earth is over 4.5 Billion ( that's billion with a "B")
Evolution is a proven fact.
Global warming is real and caused by man polluting.
Intelligent design is bullshit. It is neither intelligent and it lacks design!
And FINALLY and MOST IMPORTANTLY:
"Apologist" is a term that means LIAR!

Oh, and BTW. There is NO WAY anyone that believes in a myth is thinking critically! It is the antithesis of critical thought!

hdiscuss - I am asking the

hdiscuss - I am asking the question, "Why don't you believe in God?" ...the assignment requires me to write a philosophical response essay and email it to the person whose comment I choose.

I have an idea for you. I don't believe in god for likely the same reasons you don't believe in Zeus, Thor, or Anubis. Using my response, why don't you make your essay special by figuring out why you don't believe in those 3 gods, then write an essay to yourself. I bet no one else in your class will do such a thing. Good luck.

Holy honey trap! What a pretty proselytizer. How could anyone disbelieve anything she says? If I pretend to believe in god, will she pretend to like me?

I'm utterly confused. You are

I'm utterly confused. You are writing an essay on apologetics for a course on critical thinking? Thats abit like learning how to cook a souffle in a wood carving course to my mind. You are attending a Bible college/university somewhere? You know christian apologetics only exists because there are lies and gross in consistencies in the bible. Doesnt that suggest the bible might not be the inerrant word of god?
Im assuming you are christian. I realise I might be wrong. ..no time for editing...cell phone dying...

hdiscuss,

hdiscuss,

There are thousands of ethnocentric gods from around the world. Why do you believe in Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews and the God of the armies, instead of believing in a god such as one of these http://designtaxi.com/news/360698/Larger-Than-Life-Photographs-Of-Reimag... or some of these http://www.graveyardofthegods.org/deadgods/listofgods.html?

Did you know that not one person in human history has ever believed in the Yeshua (Jesus) character? Even you don't believe in him. You know why you don't believe in him? Because you can't do the one simple thing that he said anyone can easily do if the person believes in him. Do you know what that is?

As the Jesus character supposedly said in Luke 17:6 (TPT) = Jesus responded, “If you have even the smallest measure of authentic faith, it would be powerful enough to say to this large tree, ‘My faith will pull you up by the roots and throw you into the sea,’ and it will respond to your faith and obey you.”

So if you have faith in Yeshua walk outside and say those magic words to a tree. If it obeys then you will be the first person in world history who has ever had faith in Jesus.

Please be so kind as to let us know the results. You might be able to convert some people.

I call shenanigans.

@hdiscuss

I call shenanigans.

If you were really in an apologetics class at a university trying to gather true meaningful data atheist opinions, The professors in charge of writing the curriculum would quickly realize, they would get far better, untainted data if instead of announcing the reason behind asking the question(s) as a theist in a class about apologetics collecting answers. It would be far easier to simply ask the base question without announcing what the question is for.

I would of responded with my answer, instead of this post. I imagine many others post here would change too. Also there already are long threads on these boards with most of us answering these questions already. But perhaps I overestimate the intelligence of the folks that write this supposed apologetics course.

Also in your post you say you want to "honest discussion" and then you say 2 sentences later you won't be responding. I would not call that "discussion."

edited. Fixed a typo/misspelled word.

@hdiscuss
Also I call bullshit on your profile picture. You put in what you allude to is a picture of yourself, for 1 posting ever? That so happens to be a picture of a young attractive looking blonde? But use a generic name like "hdiscuss? " (A name picked to try to add validity to a posting?) And then end with - a lifelong student? You don't want to leave your name (or any name) but expect us to believe that you would share a picture of yourself that is supposed to be you? You do know there is reverse image search tools right?

No just like your log in name, the picture you use is a cheap attempt to garner response. There is nothing honest about your posting at all.

Encapsulating the atheist

Encapsulating the atheist position; "There just isn't any good evidence for the existence of your God."
There are no good reasons to believe in god or Gods.

Because there isn't a single shred of objective evidence to support a childish view such as theism.

Why are you doing a class in

Why are you doing a class in apologetics if you don't know why atheists disbelieve in deity's? Talk about putting your cart before your horse, I'd have thought it was a necessary part of any belief to examine the evidence for and against it, if of course a person has any interest in an open minded examination of that belief.

OK! I'll play!

OK! I'll play!

Christian God: Torturing and murdering your own son because the neighbor kids misbehaved is never a good idea. That is something only a twisted human would conceive of, thereby negating the central tenet of Christianity.

Muslim God: Updated and regurgitated version of the heinous Jewish God of Deuteronomy. Violent, genocidal, homophobic tyrant. The kind of God only a twisted human would create. See above.

Jewish God: See above.

Hindu Gods: There are some really colorful characters in that pantheon. But Blue Krishna is my favorite. Renounces passions of the flesh, then manifests himself to a hundred women at once and satisfies them all. Cool superpower but one only a horny priest would create.

Norse Gods: Superheroes and Supervillains. Must have been really cold , plenty of time around the fireplace to make shit up.

I could go on, but you get my gist. Gods are always a reflection of the people who create them. They never know more than the people who create them. They are never have any more personal integrity than the people who create them.

Addendum: Since the OP does not want to debate on the debate forum, I promise to copy and paste her reply here on this thread if she responds to me. At least , we could have a go at it for shits and giggles.

I especially like your 2nd to

I especially like your 2nd to last paragraph.

"Gods are always a reflection of people who create them. They never know more than the people who create them."

So true, so well, concisely put.

What would a course in

What would a course in Apologetic have to do with Atheism? What you should be doing is examining the fallacious BS that is presented as evidence for the existence of God.

Pascal's Wager
The Cosmological Argument
The Argument from Design
Kalam Cosmological Argument
Presuppositionalism
Ontological Argument
Teleological Argument
Moral Artument
Reformed Epistemology (God is Properly Basic)

Or you could just admit, The Religious have FAILED to meet their burden of proof. Asserting that an atheist can not prove there is no God is called (Shifting The Burden of Proof.) The default position on any claim, religious or otherwise, is to disbelieve the claim until it is proved.

Khaldoun Sweis. Professional academic apologist philosopher. "Helping you find the evidence for your faith...etc etc"....and "Turning thinkers onto believers and believers into thinkers."

edited cause I lack discipline.

I was going to correct 'onto' to 'into' but 'onto' reads better.
