All forums transition as people come and go and it is no different on this one. I have been here awhile now and am one of the old vets I suppose but the real leaders that were here before are gone or rarely post any longer. Pagmatic and the others have moved on. Chimp and Nyar are still around but less active. Zeff has come back (thankfully). Of course, leadership change is never a bad thing and new blood is deeply appreciated. Old man and Tin man seemed to have taken the lead along with Sheldon and a couple of others (forgive me if I haven't mentioned you. Algebe is strong. For one I appreciate the take over so to speak.

I was wondering what happened to Pragmatic. The pipe-smoking dinosaur made some very insightful comments. I learned a lot from his posts.
Dog-gonnit, Myk. Why you gotta go gettin' all mushy and shit? *dabbing my eyes with a hanky* Dang, making it sound like you're ready to toss in the towel or something. Snap out of it, man! How the hell am I suppose to play "good cop/bad cop" without you around? *chuckle* I'm honored by your mention of me, by the way. Thank you for that. Although, I'm not sure I'm really taking any lead, as such. But I certainly do have a blast running interference on here at times. LOL
Sorry TM, All Hail TM, All Hail TM!!! TM for err...... something...I think.
Thanks for the vote of confidence there Mykcob, but like TM unsure whether I am the one to lead. I much prefer watching you sledgehammer the opposition, TM soothing them with giggles while Algebe , with the precision of a surgeon slices their hamstrings and Samurai Sheldon removes their viscera!
To all.
I am just stating that the dynamics of the forum. I am not throwing in the towel but who drives the conversations becomes the character of the forum. I start a few threads, usually because things get bogged down or stale. It is always nice to see new ideas brought to the table. Some have expressed that we need theists presenting oddball crackpot ideas for our amusement. I disagree. I don't care what your belief or nonbelief is or your political stand. What I care about is real stimulating issues to discuss (maybe not solve). I see endless threads about NDEs, objective morality, as already played out countless of times. They don't interest me. I can't learn anything new about/from them. So I have passed the torch so to speak to those who have become the most active. YOU are the leadership now. YOU are the ones driving the conversation. I am just a willing participant and gladly so.
In some manner, we need this place. I certainly do. As atheists, we are isolated for various reasons. This outlet satisfies our collective need. We can vent, create, stimulate, learn, find comfort, seek advice, impart advice, find a new perspective, sympathize, empathize, focus, and find balance. Interacting with all with the caveat of a like-minded premise provides that balance.
I apologize for not mentioning everyone that has taken the reins. You know who you are and that should be enough.
I've made my return as well. You have Tin-man and the cloud shouter posting on one of my old Your Banned threads to thank for that. I havent gotten back to the intellectual discourse yet, but I intend to once I am not as busy.
Thanks for the mention, Myckob. I rarely make time to comment. I have even started a thread once or twice and not been back in time to read responses! :-) It has disappeared down the list. So, I'm a reader more than a contributor.
News and what's new is definitely what I look for. I think the changes in Saudi Arabia (economic and social) are especially interesting right now... From:

Though it is still anecdotal, there is evidence of growing atheism in this oil country. Not so long ago revealing to anyone you are an atheist was very dangerous. There was the possibility of government arrest. Also one assumed whoever you were talking to was a follower of the faith and would be offended. According to the link both of those inhibitions are much less common today.
