Would it be fair to say that like any other man-made institution, religion can be used for good or ill but that the supernatural aspect of worshiping an all-powerful, universal, omni-present entity of some sort, enables those who commit evil to do even more so? Would it also be fair to recognise that having an exalted someone or something up there to relieve us of personal responsibility is a very compelling notion?

If I had a supernatural

If I had a supernatural superbeing who had ultimate power, ultimate knowledge, and ultimate goodness and told me he loved me no matter what and I could be forgiven any action...

Hell. Yeah. I'd just go on a murderous rampage knowing all I had to do was believe and accept his son as lord and savior and get to live in heaven with huge harem of virgins.
