Common sayings that are basically false.

There are a number of common sayings that people say everyday. They truly believe these statements as if they where fact even though they are just something to say and nothing more. Please participate in listing common sayings that you hear that are actually false.
I'll start:
1) What comes around, goes around.
2) Everything works out in the end.
3) God is great.
4) God answered my prayers.
5) There are more fish in the sea.
6) There is someone for everyone.
7) Thank you for your service.
8) I am sorry for your loss.
9) No sin goes unpunished.
10) God watches over us.
11) I walk with god.
12) If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying.
13) Work hard and you will get ahead.
14) Republicans care about the working man.
15) Trickle down will work.
16) Supply and demand creates the best economy.
17) Republicans are for the soldier.

I could go on an explain why all of the above statements are false, but that would take far too long. So please contribute any statements that you find fit this criteria.

"We are all God's children."

"We are all God's children." I'm sorry, but my father's name was Jerry, not Jehova, and my father actually exists, mind you.

With god all things are

With god all things are possible.
For the grace of god.
All that I am I owe to Jesus Christ, revealed to me in His divine Book.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Things change, people change, but God remains.
I owe everything to god.
God gives me strength.

In reference to a lot of

In reference to a lot of married and even unmarried couples, "God gave me you." Afraid not, Mr/Miss.Romantic. You found her/him yourself. And if God did give this person to you, Id advise you to reconsider, due to God's track record.

- marriages are made in

- marriages are made in heaven.
- God helps those who help themselves (This one I find confusing... someone who helped himself would not require help from a god..... maybe this is an atheist saying in disguise)

God never gives us more than we can handle.

What about "I believe in

What about "I believe in freedom of speech"? It seems to me that those who cry the loudest for freedom of speech are the ones who believe in it the least! The worst of these hypocrites are found on the Left. If you oppose their views, suddenly they don't believe in freedom of speech anymore.
If you ask me, no one really believes in freedom of speech because everyone wants to silence their enemies or those they find offensive.

mykcob4's picture
Well I'd say that you are

Well I'd say that you are wrong about that as well. "Freedom of Speech" only applies in the government suppressing an individuals right to express themselves. This came about to counter act government from eradicating opposition and criticism. You can say anything you want, but to anyone you want and anywhere you want. Freedom of Speech only applies in cases of government suppression.
I totally disagree about your claim that the left are the biggest hypocrites. Maybe if you actually understood what freedom of speech really means you'd see what I mean.

"Thank God!"

"Thank God!"

Thanking an imaginary being could be forgiven if it is was due to pure chance, but it's still false. But thanking an imaginary being instead of the hospital personal, police, firemen, etc, that's arrogant / ignorant / shameless / loathsome.

"Free-thinkers believe in

"Free-thinkers believe in freedom of speech".

I'm all for free-thinking but it's evident that many so-called free-thinkers are as bigoted and narrow-minded as any religionist. Those infantile fools who worship the god of equality take the cake.
The cult of equality (that had it's genesis in the Enlightenment) that dominates Western civilization is full of feeble-minded, judgemental little dictators. The many "free-thinkers" who belong to this cult are outraged by any speech that is sexist, racist or homophobic, for example - yet they insist they believe in freedom of speech! So not only are these Egalitarians naïve, fatuous and stupid, they're rank hypocrites as well.
The original Enlightenment thinkers wanted to be rid of religion so they could be free to use "reason" to make a better world. But as far as I can see, all these overrated clowns succeeded in doing was inventing another "god" whose demands are just as senseless, intellectually-stifling, intolerant and oppressive as those found in the worst religions.

What a crock. You actually

What a crock. You actually think that respecting people is a bad thing. You think that racist, sexist, and homophobic speech should be tolerated. And you think people that criticize such hateful speech are actually the bad people. That is insane and typical of a religious racist nutcase.
The so called enlightened thinkers Jefferson, Madison, Jay, Hamilton, John Locke, Thomas Paine, Franklin, Patrick Henry, didn't create another god, were NOT hypocrites in that sense, were not egalitarian NOR feeble minded. They were visionaries. The thing is that 1) You don't actually know what "free speech is" and 2) You hate that you are called out on your bigotry.
So whine all you want, after all you have the freedom to do so, because those clowns as you call them ensured that right for you.
BTW "freedom of speech" is only protection against the government from denying you to speak freely or criticize the government. It has nothing to do with civil speech whatsoever.
You can't go into a Walmart and scream "god is great" unless Walmart allows you to.
So if you want to spew hate speech, like nigger or homo, you'd better be careful were and when you do it, because it is incitement and someone may be allow to smack you in the mouth for doing so.
People like you can't think. You denigrate intellect, knowledge, and science, because you are too stupid to understand it. You don't know the law at all.
So look in the mirror mate the moron will be looking straight back at you. Fucking idiot!

@ Thomas the Mythphobe

@ Thomas the Mythphobe

This seems an awful lot like troll-writing...

You seem to think that freedom of speech is only meant to allow you to act out oppression over minorities.
Let me guess: you're not a part of any ethnic minority, you're not a part of any sexual minority, you're not a woman, you're not disabled, right?

"...it's evident that many so-called free-thinkers are as bigoted and narrow-minded as any religionist."
"...infantile fools who worship the god of equality..."
"...not only are these Egalitarians naïve, fatuous and stupid, they're rank hypocrites as well."
"...all these overrated clowns succeeded in doing..."

Yet, you call others "judgemental little dictators"??
You don't do much self-analysis, do you?

To sum up:
You're against freedom of speech (or want freedom of speech to allow any oppression as well), you dislike people who think equality is a good thing, you think the original Enlightenment thinkers where overrated fools, you talk trash about religionists, you're not an atheist. So what are you then?
I find it very curious that your profile says "My Belief: Other", and no further profile info. Perhaps you could enlighten us then about your beliefs?

Sorry for the necro post, but

Sorry for the necro post, but I couldn't resist.

"Mentally I'll people are innocent, and will always go to heaven."

So, the Psychopath down the street who claims to have mental problems just gets off Scot free? I suppose if he claims your religion as the mental problem I could see that.

Or, givin Gods adamnancy about Gays and other religions, do you really think he's going to let your mental I'll or challenged child in? If so, that's really biased. Not that that's a surprise.

"it's a human right."

"it's a human right."

Yeah, sure ... according to you! Anything can be a "human right"; you just make it up as you please. The bigger the bigot, the more he loves to oppress others with subjective "human rights" rhetoric.

Human Rights grant every

Human Rights grant every human equal rights and dignity. It does not oppress, it liberates. Unlike religion, which does nothing but oppress.

Our subjective well reasoned "Human" laws are more "Humane" than the idiocy set by the moron in the sky preached in those ridiculous books where he does nothing but show himself off to be an asshole annihilating entire populations out of prejudice and jealousy and other such petty vices.

"Everything happens for a

"Everything happens for a reason".
This is often meant to imply that some supernatural force or "energy" controls events and even individual's lives. As if 7bn people with various "beliefs"; often diametrically opposed opinions; completely different 'truth'; and contradictory 'facts' doesn't explain everything.
