The topic of anarchy/ society with no government has been something that is a debatable topic. Can a society thrive without a government? Are rules a form of government? What do you guys think?

It would be a great thing if we could figure out how.
I would have to say: no.
I think we need a government. The trick is to create one that serves us, instead of vice versa.
Are rules a form of government? No, they are evidence of one.
What's that old saying? "Life without government is nasty, brutish and short."
No
I dont think so. Not with the existing mindset of humans. Even if we assume every one in a particular society have become non-believers and have come to accept science as the only way forward, the other characteristics such as greed will still be there. We do not have any way of making sure if a person will be good or bad based on his present and past activities or state of mind. Hence policing and justice system has to exist. And to enforce that, a government will have to exist.
