People with certain beliefs, talents, skills, usually have similar "ideas". Some "traits" go together. For instance if you are a good artist you might also be a good musician. Not every Picasso can also play music but "more likely than not. If you are Albert Einstein you might be a good chess player. or be good in math as well as Physics. Not every scientist may be good at chess or math but more likely. Atheist all have certain ideas that correlate together. The following is a list of some.
Atheists more likely:
1. Have similar political beliefs(mostly liberal)
2. Are more likely prochoice in womens rights
3. For gay rights and gay marriage
4. For more laws for "gun control"
5. See all people as "equal" and deny America as exceptional
6. Sad because Jon Stewart "retired" from the daily show
7. Have more "Pink Floyd" albums than Ted Nugent
8. Are inspired by the Universe rather than an imaginary man in heaven.
9 Confused by the success of morons, idiots, imbeciles, like Joel Osteen and Donald Trump.
10. Confused that Hillary Clinton is a weak, terrible, uninspiring candidate and there is no one it seems much better.
11. Think most Mexicans are hardworking, good people and are not racists, murderers, and drug dealers(although there are bad people everywhere
I am sorry as I must leave he forum for now...See you later.
If you think the list is bullshit--That's ok I can take your rejection even if you are a dumbass.
Add to the list if you think it is worthwhile or condemn it if you are a dumbass
There is also a "Theist" personality list coming soon....
God Bless---Have a nice day.

This could actually be interesting, if meant as a means of seeing which of us align with this stereotype. So, I will start by seeing where I fit, and maybe some others will feel like doing so as well.
"1. Have similar political beliefs(mostly liberal)"
I am a centrist. My position on a topic changes with the topic. I am generally socially liberal but fiscally conservative.
"2. Are more likely prochoice in womens rights"
This is a twofer, so I will have to comment on both.
I am technically pro-choice, as I do not think that abortion should be completely illegal. However, I don't necessarily agree will some of the completely laissez-faire position that others have on the issue. I don't consider it a valid form of birth control, but rather a procedure that should be done with sound reason, and not simply for convenience. So I arrive at a dilemma, I want to support a woman's right to chose, but I find myself with ethical concerns about aborting a human without just cause.
I support women's rights in the classical definition, which is equality under the law. There are a great number of modern feminist inventions that I consider ridiculous and don't support.
"3. For gay rights and gay marriage"
I support the idea that they should have equal rights under the law, and that they should be able to marry.
"4. For more laws for "gun control""
I don't particularly feel strongly about gun control, I don't personally own one, but I don't care if other people do.
"5. See all people as "equal" and deny America as exceptional"
I reject American exeptionalism, because we have slowly fallen behind. The stats continually show that we are simply underperforming in many fields compared to other countries, and until we correct that, we won't be exceptional again.
Nobody is truly equal, genetics doesn't concern itself with equality, I merely advocate that the law should be applied equally.
"6. Sad because Jon Stewart "retired" from the daily show"
He was a fairly funny comedian, I didn't always agree with him, but I will probably be disappointed that he won't make any new material for me to laugh at. I am, honestly, more excited to see where the new guy will take it.
"7. Have more "Pink Floyd" albums than Ted Nugent"
I have neither. I listen to rock music, but very few bands.
"8. Are inspired by the Universe rather than an imaginary man in heaven."
I'd say that the idea of a magic man in heaven inspires a great deal of humor in me, too bad I can't believe it.
"9 Confused by the success of morons, idiots, imbeciles, like Joel Osteen and Donald Trump."
Nope. I know exactly why they succeed. Think of the average American, the guy who made all C's in high school. Now remember that half of the population is dumber than that...
"10. Confused that Hillary Clinton is a weak, terrible, uninspiring candidate and there is no one it seems much better."
I don't want another Clinton any more than I do another Bush. Hell, I would vote for the janitor of the local Walmart before I vote for most of the clowns running this time around. Barely a few months in, and it is already a fucking circus, and produces twice the shit.
"11. Think most Mexicans are hardworking, good people and are not racists, murderers, and drug dealers(although there are bad people everywhere"
Some are, some aren't. I'd probably be more interested in the discussion about immigration if it wasn't the insincere vomitfest of political posturing that it is. Hardly any of them honestly plan on doing a goddamned thing about the immigration policy, they are just using it as a stick to beat each other, just like every other election.
Travis-I am sorry your dad died . Jeff Pragmatic and CyberLn and I send our condolences. Read their heart felt concerns for you in the post Religion and Conservative Politics. Anyways I am surprised you responded to me as you either ignore me or tell me to go fuck myself(but in more kind words). While you didn't correlate with all the characteristics of Atheists I give you a 7.8 "rating" in consistency. I guess all atheists are not all alike but do have many things in common besides being atheists. I am curious what others think about what other characteristics atheists have with each other. On American exceptionalism . I don't think it matters "the success" of the United States in the economy, technology or wealth that matters if "we are exceptional"... All countries, all people are exceptional in their own way and I think most atheists correlate with that idea. After all 85% of Americans are Christian and 45% believe the earth is 10,000 years old. American Exceptionalism??????????. Anyways you responded to the Atheist List and while that was a surprise I appreciate your thoughts. God Bless Peace

I do appreciate it. I am currently in the process of making all of the arrangements for the funeral, so I am trying not to think to much about it until I have the time to grieve. Until then I will simply try to not think too much about it.
"Anyways I am surprised you responded to me as you either ignore me or tell me to go fuck myself(but in more kind words)."
I find the idea of getting a basic political barometer interesting.

Thank you for posting something I actually like.
Condolences and thoughts for your father Travis. May he rest in peace.
A subject that is not confusing and mischievous, but instead coherent and a bit interesting. Kudos Kenny!
I would say that all these properties you mention, seems to sum up as something resembling Humanism.
This is like Strawman: The Post. That's okay though
"1. Have similar political beliefs(mostly liberal)"
I am moderate with a liberal lean. Most liberals and a good portion of Atheists do not believe in the death penalty, but I do. I have a specific position for each topic and it changes based on research, evidence, testimony, etc...
"2. Are more likely prochoice in womens rights"
I've met some atheists who aren't. Pro choice is also simplifying the position. What about cases with rape or incest? Is there a deadline for abortions? If you choose one side you don't have to adhere to the extreme form of the side. Like theism!
"3. For gay rights and gay marriage"
Well of course. I've met some Atheists though with a libertarian mindset with this, saying government should be out of marriage completely. There are also some atheists against homosexuality as a whole, but those are few and far between.
"4. For more laws for "gun control""
I mean again, what is 'gun control?' Restricting fully automatic weapons? Having background checks? Taking all guns? I'm for the second amendment, but I'm also in favor of restrictions and regulation concerning it. Again, this doesn't apply to every atheist.
"5. See all people as "equal" and deny America as exceptional"
Well what do you mean by 'equal'? As in based on a atheist's philosophy or based on society? How is America exceptional? Sure, it has it's place in history for a reason. So did the Roman Empire, Chinese Dynasties, etc..
"6. Sad because Jon Stewart "retired" from the daily show"
Don't understand why retired is in quotation marks. He did? As for if I'm sad? Yes, but he's changed the landscape of American politics forever. His legacy will speak for itself and that to me is greater. Not saying he was perfect, never wrong, and that I agreed with him one hundred percent.
"7. Have more "Pink Floyd" albums than Ted Nugent"
Is that a bad thing? Dark Side of the Moon is amazing! I'm pretty sure though there is an atheist who hasn't even listened to Pink Floyd. Don't understand why that is in quotation marks as well.
"8. Are inspired by the Universe rather than an imaginary man in heaven."
I would say this is mostly spot on, but disbelief is not the main source of inspiration for every atheist, or the appreciation for natural wonder.
"9 Confused by the success of morons, idiots, imbeciles, like Joel Osteen and Donald Trump."
I'm not confused by it. I'm sure some atheists are, but I don't mind claiming I think most atheists would provide a very sound reason as to why people like Joel Osteen and Donald Trump are successful. Then again, what kind of success are we talking about?
"10. Confused that Hillary Clinton is a weak, terrible, uninspiring candidate and there is no one it seems much better."
I'm not a Hillary supporter. #FeelTheBurn
"11. Think most Mexicans are hardworking, good people and are not racists, murderers, and drug dealers(although there are bad people everywhere"
Hey! I'm Mexcian! In all seriousness though I don't just think it's Mexicans that are hardworking and good people, I think that of Americans in general. While bad people are everywhere and the media jumps on the latest shooting, violent crime has actually gone down in America.
psgamer92--You dissected "everything too literally. The whole purpose is to show that atheists have similar things in common besides their atheism. If you don't think their is a correlation amongst atheists that they have in common other ideas and interests just say so. Of course I think your wrong. In fact you proved my point as you went down the list it seemed you agreed with my premise even if you were vague at times. I think that atheists do have many things in common besides atheism. I also feel "theists" have things in common besides their belief in God. God Bless
psgamer92 - "I've met some Atheists though with a libertarian mindset with this, saying government should be out of marriage completely."
I'm more of that camp myself. If I had a magic wand I'd remove the government's recognition of all marriages.
But in the USA since the government is heavily involved in marriage, they need to make it open to everyone, under the 14th amendment (equal protection clause); the same precedent that made laws against inter-racial marriage unconstitutional.
I think a lot of libertarians would probably agree that if government can't or won't get out of marriage, that they should at least be prohibited from placing arbitrary restrictions on who someone can marry. However, there are also some conservatives using this position as an excuse to oppose gay marriage, so people get the wrong idea when they hear it these days.
Travis and Nyalathotep---You missed the whole point. Sure you can argue whether Government should get involved in marriage at all or not. What is the libertarians position or the 14th amendment should be an argument for gay marriage or not . I am not interested in the political discussion on Gay marriage but the "moral" one. The purpose of my "discussion is that atheists have more in common than their atheism. By arguing "gay marriage" or not is just one example of the many things atheists have in common with other atheists. If you find yourself NOT agreeing with my premise you are not very smart, perceptive, or able to grasp this simple observation. Travis-Glad to see you "back "in the forum. I hope you are doing the best you can dealing with the death of your father. Peace. God Bless
"I am not interested in the political discussion on Gay marriage but the "moral" one."
In terms of law, we do not make something illegal merely because it is immoral, but because it genuinely harms others and society. So, in terms of whether or not it should be allowed under the law isn't so much a moral question, as a legal one.
Travis I am tired of you ignorance and inability to understand simple communication. You just proved my argument dummy. "In terms of law, we do not make something illegal merely because it is immoral, but because it is genuinely harms others and society. Slavery was law or an institution and was immoral.. We changed the "law" "because it genuinely harms others and society" Homosexually was once a crime and evolved in the "moral" sense so homosexuals can now marry. ==Give me a fucking break. "So in terms of whether or not it should be allowed under the law isn't so much a moral question as a legal one". No No -=It is a moral question that is only what matters. Eventually the law in a progressive "moral society evolves to what is right. Travis you continue to baffle me almost as much as llovequestion on your inability to understand "things". God Bless
No, I didn't, you are still stuck in some paradigm were immoral = illegal. There are immoral things that are legal, and illegal things that have little to do with morality.
blasphemy a.k.a. Kenny...

That's hysterical!
