Mathematics is an advancement away from religious thinking.
An obvious fuck up in the Bible? Surely you jest!
arakish,
"I have done this like a hundred and one times, and I still only count thirteen in the from Babylon to Jesus..."
Have a cup of coffee and do it one more time. You forgot Mary!
Matthew 1:12-17 (CEV) = "12-16 From the exile to the birth of Jesus, his ancestors were:
Jehoiachin, Shealtiel, Zerubbabel, Abiud, Eliakim, Azor, Zadok, Achim;
Eliud, Eleazar, Matthan, Jacob, and Joseph, the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus, who is called the Messiah.
17 There were fourteen generations from Abraham to David. There were also fourteen from David to the exile in Babylonia and fourteen more to the birth of the Messiah."
Actually, Mary and Joseph are at the same level, thus we are back to 13.

arakish,
"Actually, Mary and Joseph are at the same level, thus we are back to 13."
The writer counted Mary as her own person and not as part of a pair with Joseph. In other verses when women are mentioned they are counted as part of a pair with the men. But with Mary she is counted as an individual. Remember, it's the writer's fairy tale so he can do whatever he likes with his imaginary characters.
OMG!!! One of them must have been removed from our memory and the Bible by Satan to confuse us!!!
Forget the maths. Joseph we are told wasnt the father.
A limerick my grandma taught me.
There once was a virgin called Mary
Who claimed she had baby with God
But it werent the Amighty
Who crept up her nightie
It could have been any old sod.
Doesnt Jewish tradition hold that you need a Jewish mother to be a real Jew?
If so then following patriarchal lineage doesnt make sense.....then again....
Grinseed,
"Doesnt Jewish tradition hold that you need a Jewish mother to be a real Jew?"
The Bible has stories where Jews raped Gentiles and had Jewish babies.
During slavery times the big question was how should they classify children of inter-racial unions. If they went by the father's race then the mixed race child could be considered white and therefore be set free and inherit property. They didn't like that so they went with the mother. The problem was that some white women had mixed race children so then the child became white because his mother was white. That was an even worse idea. So they finally settled on the one-drop rule where if the child had any black ancestry at all he was black even if he looked completely white. That then became the law of the land.
In the case of Yeshua although his daddy was supposedly the Holy Spirit he was never completely godly because he was always identified as a Jew for his entire life.
Thanks for that Dio, I had always assumed master/slave offspring were considered slaves until further notice.
Grinseed,
"I had always assumed master/slave offspring were considered slaves until further notice."
"The Price of Being Born of Mixed-Race During Slavery"
"A free woman of color could have had a child or children fathered by a white man. The biracial children in this case were considered free; it was the mother’s status that determined whether a child was free or not.
Many white women and black men also had affairs, more often than expected. The offspring of these couples were also considered free since, the mother’s status of slavery or freedom was the determining factor."
