Regardless of the affectations of rhetoric-based catch-phrase, slogan and mantra engineering, no one has ever in the history of man been anything but a free thinker. No religion has ever affected that. No acceptance of a god has, either. The mind cannot be legislated.
You see, people, free thinking is a natural sensory processing feature of the mind. It wanders where it will based on prompts it receives from the senses. There's no changing or modifying that natural process. Yes, it can be given ideas from other minds but the fact remains that acceptance or rejection of those ideas is a matter of its existing free thinking capacity. Acceptance of the existence of a god has no affect on free thinking. Nor, does rejection of the existence of a god.
To say that I'm going to tell another person a story that he should believe to qualify his mind as free thinking is a hilarious proposition and, otherwise, sadly befitting the meager human grasp on logic. But, at least we're proud to display our ignorance. Truth should be upheld as a virtue regardless of the cost.
This points to the so-called Freethought Festival as a rather bone-headed title suggesting all in attendance are basically clueless rank-in-file sheep who, like those who went before them by various other names (christians, jews, etc), are being groomed for the shearing.
Don't get fooled into playing the fool again.
I believe you are going a little hard on the topic name. Though I will not entirely object to your point--I just think you are seemingly offended by something silly as the title for a good idea.
