Maybe Right, Maybe Wrong: A Guide for Young Thinkers – Dan Barker |
Maybe Right, Maybe Wrong: A Guide for Young Thinkers is a fantastic book that offers children advice on how to go about the subject of morality. Author Dan Barker puts in the effort to explain to his readers the differences between principles and rules in simple words that they will be able to comprehend and grasp easily. In the book, he also stresses on the need to use principles to think for oneself rather than follow the rules of somebody else.
With roots in humanist philosophy, the content of this book revolves around the idea that nothing is more important that human beings. It states humans are empathetic creatures and they usually feel empathy for those around them, unless of course an abnormal development takes place that causes a man or a woman to think, feel and act otherwise. And because humans are empathetic, Barker establishes that they do not generally want to harm anything around them.
The eight things that the author focuses on in Maybe Right, Maybe Wrong are as follows: Life is Valuable, Fairness, Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Knowledge, Kindness and Enjoy Life. This engaging book is not only an excellent read for young thinkers but it also helps start a healthy debate between children and their parents. Give your child this book if you wish for him or her to learn when one must ask “Why?”
