Are some people better off with religion?

For the most part, it seems a waste of time to stir up controversy. What one believes is not going to change by these dialogues. My concern is how to deal with Christian grandchildren who believe they were saved from the lives they lived prior. I avoid controversy with them because of their seeming need for their faith. To be made to question it might throw them back into the drugs and alcohol of their pasts. Anyone else have a similar situation? How did you solve it if you did?
