German-Egyptian academic and political scientist Hamed Abdel-Samad declared that Islam was distorted from the beginning and was born with seeds of civil war.

In an interview with Brother Rachid, a Moroccan televangelist and an ex-Muslim, Abdel-Samad said Islam was already perverted since it was founded in 610 AD. He also said seeds of civil war were planted in Islam, possibly referring to the Sunni-Shia schism that occurred after the death of Prophet Muhammad in 632 AD.
"It put forward great slogans but failed to come up with a program for coexistence between nations.” Hamed Abdel-Samad stated in the interview.
Abdel-Samad also argued that implementing the Sharia law in nations such as Afghanistan, Iran, and areas under the control of Boko Haram and ISIS did not develop ideal societies. He also proclaimed that Gulf states, once the champions of Sharia, have primarily abandoned Sharia law since it did not serve their economic interests.

"Islam and its shari'a are dwindling.” Abdel-Samad also asserted. “Show me Islamic countries that are not using 'usurious' banks. What Islamic countries are not using camera lenses? Didn't they say that photography is haram, according to shari'a? Everybody is filming. Even the Salafis are posting videos on TikTok.” he also added.
The German-Egyptian academic also asked whether nations that claim to implement Sharia law can still open slave markets or sell enslaved people in the modern era. This was not the first time Abdel-Samad talked about the forgotten link between Islam and slavery. Abdel-Samad argued that 29 verses in the Quran allowed slavery and even said that Arabs enslaved Africans more than other nations.
Finally, Abdel-Samad asserted that Sharia law has largely dwindled, and “all that is left from it are the hijab and sex,” possibly about how Sharia is imposed in many Islamic countries, especially concerning women’s rights and freedoms.
Both Hamad Abdel-Samad and Brother Rachid, who interviewed him, are considered to be critics of Islam. Hamad Abdel-Samad published many books about Islam, including his latest work Islamic Fascism, which proclaimed Islam as a fascist ideology hiding under the veil of religion.
Brother Rachid (or Rachid Hammami) is a son of a Moroccan Imam who initially converted from Islam to Christianity to defend Islam. But after he was kicked out of his home, Brother Rachid became a critic of Islam and hosted a TV show where he answered questions from Muslims and showed testimonies from ex-Muslims who converted to Christianity.
Rachid and Abdel-Samad have their own YouTube channels, each with hundreds of thousands of subscribers and millions of total views.
