On May 7, 2022, Haribhushan Thakur Bachau, BJP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the eastern State of Bihar, said that Muslims “should be set ablaze just as Hindus burn Ravana effigies during the festival of Dussehra.”
Ravana is a demonic deity in Hinduism.

When asked about his take on the near century-long conflict in Kashmir between India and Pakistan, his statements came.
Before calling for genocide, he stated, “We need a Hanuman Ji so that our youth could be strong, the people of our country could be strong. Just like Ravana’s Lanka was burnt by Hanuman ji, the demon-like Ravanas, who are hovering over Bihar and the country, should also be burnt.” It should be noted that he did not directly say “Muslims,” but it is easily applied.
This is not the first time that Bachau has made anti-Muslim statements. Last year, he called for the closures of all madrassas, referring to them as being a “breeding ground for terrorists.”
Sentiments being openly shared by politicians such as Bachau is why experts like Dr. Gregory Stanton — founder of Genocide Watch — warned that genocide against Muslims in India is inevitable.
