A sick teenage girl in Honduras was buried, while still alive, after her religious parents decided to seek help from a local priest. They took her to the nearby medical facility only later on, where doctors wrongfully declared her dead. Neysi Perez, 16, reportedly woke up in her coffin a day after she had been buried and despite passersby attempting to break open the tomb that had been built over her coffin to rescue her, the teenager died before being freed.
Footage recorded at the scene show hysterical relatives smashing into the concrete after being informed of Perez’s screams from inside. Unfortunately, Perez had already passed away by the time she was unearthed. Her relatives described that her body was still warm and fingertips bruised, as she tried to break open the glass window of her coffin while struggling to survive.
“As I put my hand on her grave, I could hear noises inside,” her husband, Rudy Gonzales told the media. “I heard banging, then I heard her voice. She was screaming for help.”
Perez, who was three months pregnant at the time of her death, had allegedly fallen unconscious after hearing a spate of gun firing outside her residence in La Entrada. When her religious parents saw her foaming at the mouth, they decide to seek help from a local priest, fully convinced that the teenage mother had been possessed by an evil entity. After the priest failed to yield any successful result despite carrying out an elaborate ritual of exorcism on the sick and pregnant teenage girl, her parents decided to rush her to the nearby medical facility. Here, doctors wrongfully pronounced her dead three hours later.
Perez was eventually dressed in her wedding gown before being buried. Gonzalez told the media that he was only visiting his wife’s grave 24 hours after having buried her, when he heard screams and noises from inside the tomb.
Doctors explained that Perez may have suffered a massive panic attack upon hearing the gun firing outside her house, which caused her heart to stop beating momentarily. They also said it was also possible that she had suffered a cataplexy attack, which can be triggered by dire stress and causes a person to suddenly lose all voluntary muscle function
While Perez’s mother blamed doctors for signing her death certificate way before time, doctors blamed her family members for giving in to their religious convictions and first seeking help from a priest instead of medical professionals.
