While speaking on American Family Radio on March 12, Austin Ruse, president of Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, a nonprofit research group, said that liberal leaders of “modern universities” should “all be taken out and shot.”
Ruse was filling in for host Sandy Rios on Wednesday. While discussing the case of a Duke University student, who was recently ousted for being a porn actress, he said that the “toxic stew of the modern university” includes programs like sex education and women’s studies.
Even though the radio segment has been unavailable on American Family Radio’s website since Ruse made his comments, Right Wing Watch made a note of his inappropriate comments.
“That is the nonsense that they teach in women’s studies at Duke University, this is where she learned this. The toxic stew of the modern university is gender studies, it’s “Sex Week,” they all have “Sex Week” and teaching people how to be sex-positive and overcome the patriarchy. My daughters go to a little private religious school and we pay an arm and a leg for it precisely to keep them away from all of this kind of nonsense. I do hope that they go to a Christian college or university and to keep them so far away from the hard left, human-hating people that run modern universities, who should all be taken out and shot,” Ruse was recorded saying.
Ruse, who also serves as a columnist for the conservative news website Breitbart, returned to American Family Radio the following day to attack Right Wing Watch. He referred to the liberal advocacy group as “pajama boys” with “their panties all in a twist.”
When criticized, Ruse did not shy away from defending his remarks as a “figure of speech.” He also said that Democrats make “mistakes when they get into the ballot box” because they are “really dumb, low-information voters.”
Only last month, Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute was added to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list titled Active Anti-LGBT Groups.
