While delivering a speech at the Pastor for Life Luncheon, Alabama’s Chief Justice Roy Moore said that the First Amendment only protects Christians because Mohammed or Buddha did not create Americans.
“Buddha didn’t create us, Mohammed didn’t create us, it was the God of the Holy Scriptures who created us. They didn’t bring the Koran over on the pilgrim ship… Let’s get real, let’s go back and learn our history. Let’s stop playing games,” he said.
Moore also mentioned that he loves to engage with lawyers because he himself attended a secular law school where he learnt that in the law, it isn’t just politically correct to talk about God. According to the chief justice, America has “lost its way” and thus he will be publishing a pamphlet in the near future that contains copies of the Declaration of Independence as well as the Constitution to prove that all the people “who found this nation – black, white, all people, all religions, all faiths” knew that America was “about God.”
Later, Moore referred to Blackstone’s Law to define life. He said that American lawyers have forgotten about this particular book that explains life begins when the baby first kicks and instead they follow what the courts have to say today – which is life does not begin until the head comes out.
“Now if technology’s supposed to increase our knowledge, how did we become so stupid?” he enquired.
Discussing Thomas Jefferson’s use of ‘life’ in the Declaration of Independence, he said, “when [Jefferson] put ‘life’ in there, it was in the womb — we know it begins at conception. Why aren’t we going the right way instead of the wrong way?”
Towards the end, Moore said that the pursuit of happiness meant following God’s law because unless people follow His law, they cannot find happiness and if they do, they cannot help but feel happy.
“It’s all about God… We’ve made ‘life’ a decision taken by man and taken liberty, and converted it to licentiousness. We’ve taken ‘pursuit of happiness,’ and reduced it to materialism,” said Moore.
